Evolution:

The story of Leland Torrence Enterprises begins with Leland Sr.’s formative years, where he honed his craft as a carpenter and traditional home builder in Vermont and California. In 1978, the company took its initial steps, emerging as a comprehensive construction entity. Initially focused on traditional general contracting and real estate development, our journey soon veered towards the restoration of historical properties. Notably, we breathed new life into 23 residences within the prestigious Fair Haven Historic District while simultaneously preserving landmarks across the wider New Haven area. Collaborating with Robert Orr Architects, Leland Torrence spearheaded a pioneering condominium project, blending New Urbanist principles with historic vernacular architecture on a picturesque 7.5-acre stretch along the Quinnipiac River.

Expanding our horizons, Leland delved into visual presentations, productions, and documentaries through Multi-Image Communications, a venture he founded. Teaming up with Rodney Chalk Productions, we crafted compelling works for esteemed clients such as the Navy, Coast Guard, Yale Alumni Association, Young Presidents Organization, Weyerhaeuser, Parke Davis, New Haven Arts Council, Rosewood Hotels, Nestle, Georgia Pacific, The Smithsonian Institution, and more.

In 1991, while concurrently managing Leland Torrence Enterprises and Multi-Image Communications, Leland embarked on a transformative phase, collaborating with Schiavone Management. Together, they rejuvenated 18 structures along College and Chapel Streets, envisioning a vibrant New Orleans-style development. This period also marked a pivotal partnership with the FDIC, fostering expertise in comprehensive ten-year capital improvement plans, with a focus on energy efficiency and historic restoration.

Leland’s dedication to craftsmanship and preservation culminated in the establishment of THE GUILD of Fine Craftsmen and Artisans in 1995, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering building technology and preserving specialized skills in the building trades. Over time, Leland Torrence Enterprises evolved into a vertically integrated construction services company, offering consultancy, long-term capital improvement plans, precise cost estimating, and expert construction management. In 2011, the torch passed to the next generation as Leland Jr. joined the family business, bringing a wealth of experience from woodworking schools and Colorado construction ventures. Pawel Stepien and his skilled team joined in 2016, catalyzing a renewed focus on construction management services, with an emphasis on residential projects and pre-construction services. Our commitment to excellence drives us to forge enduring relationships with architects, designers, and clients who share our vision.

Presently, our business thrives across two distinct domains: residential projects and owner representation, embodying our unwavering dedication to quality and innovation.
